Edit: This is not a confirmation of localisation, just an update on how long it’s been compared to other games!

So not including Kenzan or the PSP spin offs (that never made it over here) Yakuza 5 is currently the 3rd slowest title to have a western localisation announcement since the original Japanese was released.

Yakuza 2 - 587 days taken to announce.

Yakuza 3 - 285 days taken to announce.

Yakuza 5 - 263 Days (So far as of August 25/2013)

To see the full breakdown of release dates to localisation announcements visit my other article over here now updated to include today’s date and Ishin.

With Sakamoto Ryōma [Kiryu] working to overthrow him how will their dynamic work this time around?

Thanks to Waranis Obtheair Pongjanyanukul from our facebook page for the tip!

Looks like we’ll have to wait until TGS to find out what hardware this will be on. I wonder why they’re being so coy about it? Vita? PS4?

Drinking and Sega news. I love Sega-raw.

Thanks to @SEGAFAN_ for the on the fly translations!

yakuza 4 - speed star (playstation 3)

i <3 akiyama. there’s something about lazy, goofy, drunk idiots who haphazardly succeed by being genuine and kind that just makes my heart melt. maybe it’s the whole yojimbo/monkey king vibe he gives off?

anyways, this song is S.T.R.O.N.G. and perfectly sums up what i like about the music in the series. smashing faces alongside fast jazz. it’s what life is all about.

yakuza 4 was actually the first game i played in the series (having in the past been told by idiots that the ps2 ones were just “bad gta clones without driving”). at some point, i watched the trailer for y4, realized that it was pretty much shenmue mixed with river city ransom, and immediately went out and purchased a ps3. you know what? it’s better than shenmue. way better. i said it.

and it’s the real reason someone should buy a ps3. not for metal gear solid 4. not for 3d dot game heroes. not for journey. not for the last of us. not for heavy rain. buy it for yakuza. play the first 2 on your ps3. buy all the sequels. import the untranslated ones. it’s one of the best, if not the best, current game series.

as far as i’m concerned, sega can throw sonic away (but please bring back jet set radio!!!). they need to bring y5 over asap.

You are a wonderful person and no one can disagree.

Starting in September street solicitation will be banned in Kabukicho!

The move comes in the wake of growing incidents involving trouble with touts in the ward, particularly in the Kabukicho area, ward officials said.

A metropolitan ordinance already bans aggressive solicitation such as pulling at the clothing of passersby, but the ward’s new ordinance, set to be enforced Sept. 1, will ban any kind of street solicitation.

Although the ordinance carries no penalty, with violators to be given “direction” from neighborhood wardens, it is only the first step and the ward will “consider adding a punitive clause if it proves to have no effect,” a ward official said.

If Kamurocho is reflected in the next game it’ll be weird to wander the streets and not see the guys with signs giving you pocket tissues!

Off Topic: Project Diva: F is out today!

Today Sega for the first time in the west releases a vocaloid title! With the complete original Japanese soundtrack!

This one is definitely just for the fans, The game has had very minimal advertising and will likely only have a limited printing so make sure to grab one! Luckily this one made it to the PSN (where there’s also a demo).

Unfortunately Europe will need to wait until September 4th to get it.

The vocaloid series is one of Sega’s flagship titles in Japan but has never really taken off here in the west so this will likely be one of the only Vocaloid games we ever see.

And to relate it back to Yakuza here’s all the tie ins in Yakuza 5:

3 more characters have been confirmed to be playing a role in Ishin and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is pulling all the way from Yakuza one!

Not only that they’re bringing back the original voice actors for the job! It will be interesting to see Nishiki’s 2013 character model when the first trailer hits since right now we only get the low poly HD versions.

Ryuji Goda as Saigo Kichinosuke - voiced by Masami Iwasaki

Akira Nishiki as Okada Izo - voiced by Kazuhiro Nakaya

Hiroshi Hayashi as Takeda Kanryusai - voiced by Shun Sugata

Thanks @KHHSubs for the tip and translations!

  • The answer to the famous question of how Sakamoto Ryoma dies will be revealed in this game.
  • You’ll play in Tosa during the prologue, but the majority of the game is set in Kyoto.
  • Kyoto is completely remade and not pulled from Yakuza: Kenzan.
  • Kyoto’s cityscape will appear similar to modern day Kyoto.
  • Some people will be wearing western clothes, and there will be actual foreigners, too.
  • The focus is on making the game more JRPG-fun than any other. Series producer Toshihiro Nagoshi wants to bring the type of RPG he finds personally enjoyable back to Japan, so this is a chance to take on that challenge. They’re putting in a lot of RPG elements, like strengthening yourself in town and upgrading your weapons.
  • You’ll use a gun and sword in combat. There are a variety of types.
  • The battle system aims to be the deepest and most exhilarating in the series.
  • The game will be balanced so you can’t proceed easily unless you level up both yourself and your weapons.
  • The genre is action adventure to the end.
  • It promises to be the most intense production in Yakuza series history.
  • You will never hear the name Kazuma Kiryu. There are no tattoos on the back of the two characters he plays.
  • The max level is 99. There are an unthinkable number of weapons.
  • Taiga Saejima will play Nagakura Shinpachi.

We’re at the end of the week so it’s time for 3 more Ishin character reveals!

Sadly though unless you’ve imported a copy of Yakuza 5 you may not recognize them.

- Masaru Watase playing Sasaki Tadasaburo voiced by Rintaro Nishi a member of the Kyoto Mimawarigumi

- Yuu Morinaga playing Matsubara Chuji voiced by Hiroki Touchi captain of the 4th Shinsengumi unit

- Ogita Kan playing Suzuki Mikisaburo voiced by Ryota Takeuchi captain of the 9th Shinsengumi unit

On a side note; Sony Japan has a press conference scheduled for September 9 3PM JST quite a bit before TGS! So with any luck we won’t be waiting long.

[Thanks KHHSubs]

Operation Rainfall is looking for the Number One Fan! Think you are? Then you could win prizes!

Unfortunately this is for US residents only but the prizes are so good you’ll consider immigrating!

From the Operation Rainfall website:

What we are looking for are the number one fans of the games (or game series) for the titles we are trying to get localized. So, we’re looking for the number one Yakuza fan, the number one Valkyria Chronicles fan, the number one Shining fan, the number one Suikoden fan, and the number one Beyond the Labyrinth fan.

Prove to us that you are the number one fan! Send us a creative, amusing, or funny video, photo, fan art, poem, story—pretty much anything you can think of, as long as it can be sent to us via email. Please keep entries in good taste. Anything vulgar will not be considered for entry. Be creative, and be impressive!

If—and we must stress if—one or more of the games we’re trying to get localized are picked up by LAI for localization, then those lucky fans we pick as the number one fans for those games or series will get the chance to actually be involved in the localization process. Five people will get this chance, one winner for each game. Remember, there are no guarantees that any game will be localized, but it’s still an exciting possibility.

The contest will begin on Friday, August 30th, 2013. All entries must be submitted by Friday, September 13th, 2013, 10:00 PM PDT. Winners will be revealed on Friday, September 20th, 2013.

There you have it. Make sure you read all of the rules before participating and good luck Yakuza Fans!

@giocorsi is taking requests right now for a new SCEA team to do ports and localisations, might be worth letting yakuza fans know to beat down his door for 5 and Ishin :)
